Award-Winning Ring at Borsheims for Berkshire Hathaway Weekend

Wednesday, April 6th, 2016

It will be no surprise to any shareholders who have visited Borsheims during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend in the past…

An award-winning ring will be in house, available for people to see, try on, and even buy at a special shareholder-only price!

Rahaminov Rose Ring

The ring is from one of our favorite vendors, Rahaminov Diamonds. The 2.3 carat natural fancy pink diamond at the center of the ring, the incredible diamonds surrounding it, and the overall beautiful design helped this ring to win the 2016 JCK Jewelers’ Choice Award Grand Prize.

Each year, the Rahaminov Diamonds crew brings cases of incredible jewelry like this ring. They’re responsible for last year’s 50 carat yellow diamond (in honor of Berkshire Hathaway’s 50th anniversary celebration.)

Make sure to carve out some time in your busy Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend to stop by Borsheims luxury salon and see the award winning ring – and all the other fantastic jewelry – for yourself. We promise to give you a great shareholder discount!

The Wienermobile is Coming to #BRK2016!

Tuesday, March 8th, 2016

Get excited, hot dog fans.

There’s going to be a Wienermobile at this year’s Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Weekend!

Oscar Meyer WienermobileHow great is that!?!

The Omaha World Herald’s Steve Jordon mentioned it in his weekly Warren Watch wrap-up, which is always a key place for news about Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

He notes:
Buffett’s favorite meal these days is an Oscar Mayer hot dog (by Kraft) with Heinz ketchup or mustard and a Coke.
Not sure we’ll be serving hot dogs at our Friday cocktail party or Sunday shareholder brunch at Borsheims. But you can believe we’ll have lots of Coke products. And I’m certain you can get your fill of hot dogs down at the CenturyLink Center on Saturday!

What Warren Buffett says about Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Weekend

Saturday, February 27th, 2016
The big news about the 2016 Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting was announced a few weeks ago – it will be webcast for the first time. In Warren Buffett’s annual letter to shareholders – released today – he says:
“Charlie and I have finally decided to enter the 21st Century. Our annual meeting this year will be webcast worldwide in its entirety.”
This is huge news. Warren Buffett says they made the change because they’re hoping to keep attendance at the meeting the same or even slightly lower. We were at capacity last year – both in terms of the CenturyLink Center where the meeting was held and places for people to stay in the area.

Buffett’s other reason is age. Charlie Munger is 92. Warren is 85. They say shareholders should be able to see them occasionally to “monitor how we look and sound.”

The team at Yahoo will no doubt do an excellent job with the webcast. You can sign up for a reminder alert or watch it here.

I did note that in the schedule for the webcast – it will begin carrying coverage of the annual meeting at 9:30 CDT. That means those watching online will not get a chance to watch the phenomenally funny video that kicks off the meeting each year. Chalk that up as another great reason to come to Omaha to see the meeting in person.

Last year, Berkshire Hathaway offered shopping hours for the first time on Friday at the CenturyLink Center in Berkyville. It was a hit (we can attest! Our Borsheims booth was wonderfully busy!). The same shopping hours will be held this year – noon to 5 on Friday, April 29th and 7am – 4:30pm on Saturday, April 30th.

It looks like everything else at the meeting will look a lot like it has for several years now. When you have a great thing going – why change it?

We’ll still have the Borsheims Cocktail party to kick off the weekend on Friday, April 29th from 6 to 9pm.

Saturday, April 30th, the doors to the CenturyLink Center will open at 7am. The movie will start at 8:30 and the meeting will begin at 9:30. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger will again take questions both from the audience and from the panel of financial journalists. The meeting will wrap up about 4:30 – in plenty of time for people to get to the picnic at Nebraska Furniture Mart from 5:30 – 8pm or do any other number of fun things around Omaha.

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett concede their table tennis match to Olympian Ariel Hsing during the 2015 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders weekend.

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett concede their table tennis match to Olympian Ariel Hsing during the 2015 Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders weekend.

Sunday, May 1st, the Brooks Berkshire 5K will start at 8am. Then head on over to Borsheims for the shareholder only shopping day from 9am – 4pm. At Borsheims, expect the magician, the bridge experts, and table tennis champ Ariel Hsing.

The weekend wraps up Sunday evening with dinner at Gorat’s. It’s tough to get a seat – so they start taking reservations on April 1st. (We’ll remind you as it gets closer – don’t worry!). Warren Buffett’s other favorite restaurant, Piccolo’s, closed this past year.

That’s it! So really the only change at this year’s annual shareholders meeting and weekend is one that won’t even be noticeable to the shareholders who come to Omaha for the fun – the addition of the webcast.

We can’t wait! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Warren Buffett’s Letter to Shareholders Coming Saturday

Wednesday, February 24th, 2016

For devoted followers of Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway, this is no surprise. Warren Buffett’s annual letter to shareholders will be released this Saturday on the Berkshire Hathaway website. (It’s released every year on the last Saturday before March.)

It’s always a fascinating read – full of quips and quotes and wisdom that comes from years of being an incredibly successful investor.

And while that stuff is interesting, we scan it super fast to look for the details about Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend. There are often surprises about the weekend’s events found in the letter – even for our crew at Borsheims, which hosts two of the big events during the weekend.

So while you’ll be able to find plenty of analysis of the business aspect of the letter immediately after its release, look to BorsheimsBRK for a quick synopsis of what Warren says we can expect for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend. We’ll be here bright and early Saturday morning eagerly hitting refresh until we see the letter in all it’s glory!

Watch the BRK Meeting Online This Year

Friday, January 29th, 2016

Well this is news!

The Omaha World Herald and the Wall Street Journal are reporting that Berkshire Hathaway will stream this year’s annual meeting online. Shareholders have been asking about this possibility for years and we are glad to see it happening!

In no particular order, here are a list of the reasons why this will be awesome:
  • More people than ever will get a glimpse of the hilarity that is Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger combined.
  • The meeting gets bigger every year – last year the overflow room I was in was standing-room-only and I heard all the overflow rooms were equally as packed. I don’t think having people sit on each other’s laps through the day-long meeting is a great plan, so….
  • A live stream of the meeting means more shopping time for shareholders! They can browse at Borsheims while watching the meeting on our in-store big screens or their smartphones.
  • Two words: Berkshire Movie. Once that piece of fine art is online, it is bound to go viral.
  • Shareholders will still come to Omaha. In droves. If not only for the chance to hang with other shareholders and get a glimpse of Warren Buffett, they definitely will keep coming for our free food and drinks and amazing shopping!
In all seriousness, we are glad to see Berkshire Hathaway make this technology leap. The more people who can learn from Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, the better, right?

And for the few shareholders who may opt to sit this trip to Omaha out and watch from the comfort of their far away city, we welcome them to get their Berkshire souvenirs and fine jewelry anytime they wish from our handy dandy website,

OWH: Kids Give Money Advice to Warren Buffett

Sunday, May 3rd, 2015

I love the story the Omaha World Herald did this weekend where they asked first graders to give money advice to Warren Buffett.

(Full disclosure: I especially love it because it is my son’s class at Dundee Elementary so I know all the kids featured. They are awesome.)

Here are the sentences they had to complete:
If I had one billion dollars, ___________. If Warren Buffett had one billion dollars, ___________.
My favorite may have been Lucy who said she would buy a swimming pool and a real diamond. Lucy -come to Borsheims! We can get you a real diamond for much less than one billion dollars!

So how would you answer the question? What would you do with $1 billion? What would you suggest Warren Buffett does with $1 billion?

See the proposal from #BRK50’s Annual Meeting Movie

Saturday, May 2nd, 2015

I adore the annual meeting movie that Warren Buffett’s office and the amazing crew at Mason Video put together each year. This year was no exception. From the Geico camel kicking it off to the musical salute to managers at the end, it’s always perfection.

One of the most touching parts this year was the video of Warren Buffett helping Eric LaFante propose to his girlfriend, Carrie Fischer. You should probably see it again. With a tissue handy if you’re the sentimental type.

Isn’t that awesome? I love love.

The Omaha World Herald caught up with Eric and Carrie for a follow-up article this weekend. You can read all about how they met and how the proposal came about.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Eric and Carrie! We wish them all the best for their upcoming wedding this summer and for a long, blissful marriage.
