Sunday Funday at Borsheims

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Sunday is such a fun day at Borsheims. It’s really my favorite day of Berkshire shareholders weekend. It’s a little more relaxed than the rest, and we have all these fun games happening in Regency Court – right outside of Borsheims.

Back by popular demand… my helpful hints to playing the games today:

BRIDGE Bridge is again upstairs this year on the second floor of Regency Court. Anyone is welcome to play as long as they know how to play bridge. It helps if you already have your foursome put together, but if you’re solo come upstairs and sign up and we’ll try to get a group together for you. Bridge usually begins at 1pm, but a few people have been known to start playing earlier. We will have the sign-up sheet ready at noon and if you definitely want a seat, that’s when you should arrive. The experts, Sharon Osberg and Bob Hamann usually arrive between noon and 1pm. In his letter to shareholders, Warren Buffett says he will play them and hopes to “have Ajit and Charlie there also.”

Ariel Hsing plays Warren Buffett and Bill Gates

Olympian Ariel Hsing plays Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in Table Tennis at the 2012 Shareholders Meeting

TABLE TENNIS Mr. Buffett asked Ariel Hsing, Olympic Table Tennis star, back to Borsheims for another shareholders weekend! We are expecting her to start playing around 1pm. Shareholders can form a queue to try their table tennis skills against the young champ. We will provide paddles and balls, but if you are partial to your own paddle, you are welcome to bring it. Ms. Hsing usually stays for a few hours and rarely gets beat, but you’re welcome to try! We expect Mr. Buffett and Bill Gates to lead off the play with her.

MAGICIAN Norman Beck is an excellent magician and will do tricks in front of (and to) any shareholder near where he’s performing. He is usually located near Williams Sonoma, so be camped out there if you’re hoping to catch his show.

Hope you can join us for the fun!

Behind the Scenes: Opening Borsheims for Shareholders

Saturday, April 30th, 2016

It takes a lot of work to open Borsheims for shareholders each day during Berkshire Hathaway weekend.

Our vendors bring in cases of extra jewelry and watches – and we have to fill our cases each morning.

Our florist always brings in beautiful floral arrangements for the weekend. Each morning they makes sure the flowers are looking great!

Our facilities team works so hard making sure the store sparkles – even with thousands of people coming through every day.

And our sales people – besides getting the jewelry ready – help to make sure the cases are nice and smudge-free.

Watching the Berkshire Hathaway Meeting Online

Saturday, April 30th, 2016

If – for some crazy reason – you didn’t come to Omaha for this year’s Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting…

Or if you just wanted to stay at home this morning and recover from the big Borsheims cocktail party last night…

Or if you’re shopping the CenturyLink Center’s Berkyville, eating a Dilly Bar, and waiting to buy your Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger Coca Cola Tumbler…

Never Fear! You can watch this year’s annual shareholders meeting online at Yahoo Finance.

We met some of the crew from Yahoo earlier this week – they’ll have a story about Borsheims on before the shareholders meeting broadcast and during “halftime” (or lunch, as we call it).

We loved having the crew in store, including reporter Nicole Sinclair. I think she enjoyed it, too! Here she is with about $10 million in jewelry from Borsheims!

The live broadcast starts at 9am Central!

Getting to Borsheims for Friday’s #BRK2016 Cocktail Party

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

We heard there was a bit of a line last year waiting for the shuttle to take folks from the Westroads Mall parking lot to Borsheims for Friday’s Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder-only cocktail party. As in a line several city blocks long. Thankfully, we heard it moved relatively quickly, but we don’t want there to be a similar line this year.

So we’ve made a few changes.

We’ve added shuttles.

We’ve changed the routes a bit.

And we’ve added a parking lot attendant to help shareholders navigate their way to our big Friday night party.

Westroads Shuttle Map

Follow the map, the signs (and probably – the crowds). If you’re not arriving by Taxi or Uber, shuttle is probably the best way to get to Borsheims as parking will be very limited around the store.

And if you do want to take an Uber – have we got a deal for you! The great folks at Uber want to make your Berkshire Hathaway weekend even easier, so they’re offering free rides to those new to Uber. Here’s what they say:
Get a reliable ride in minutes with the Uber app this weekend. If you’re new to Uber, download the app here, and get $20 off your first ride. Already have the app and haven’t taken a ride yet? Enter the code BRK2016 for the same new user discount!  Uber provides transportation at the tap of a button in over 400 cities across the globe. For over 2 years, Uber has provided rides in Omaha and Lincoln. To learn more about Uber around the world, check out uber.com/cities.
See – no excuses for not making it to the best party of the weekend. Free Uber rides and a new and improved shuttle. We will see you all tomorrow night!

Security Changes for Berkshire Shareholders

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Heads up for all the shareholders visiting Borsheims Friday and Sunday for the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend: We have new security procedures in place.

Borsheims has a top-notch security team that is always working to ensure our customers, employees, and shareholders are safe. They implement new security procedures each year. This year’s changes will be a little more visible.

We will have metal detectors at all entrances to Regency Court. They will be in operation all day Friday and all day Sunday.

These are the simple walk-through type of metal detectors, designed to ensure that no one is bringing a weapon into the event.

In addition, our security staff will be checking bags and purses and we will have an area for shareholders to set aside their luggage – it will not be allowed in the store.

These security checks should be pretty easy for shareholders to maneuver. They’re the same security checks people go through to access a number of events, including concerts, sporting events, and to enter the courthouse here in Omaha. We’re sure the shareholders will appreciate our team going the extra mile to ensure everyone’s safety.

Animals You Can Wear at Borsheims

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Earlier this week, we talked about the lions, tigers, and rhinos at Borsheims that will greet Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.

They’re more of the set-on-a-shelf-and-admire sort of animals.

If you’re more into wearable animals, do we have some options for you!

This collection of pearl animals from one of our favorite vendors, TARA Pearls125231_142 Tara Crab 00132252_107 00133106_178 00133197_070 00133230_211

Aren’t they cool? And this is just a sampling of the animals they have!

Come in to Borsheims to check them out during Berkshire Hathaway weekend. The crew from TARA Pearls will be on hand to tell you all about how special these are and I know they give great discounts to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.

Exclusive Tag Heuer Smartwatch Available for Berkshire Shareholders

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016

The new TAG Heuer Smartwatch, TAG Heuer Connected, is in store at Borsheims and ready for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.

TAG Heuer ConnectedThis is the newest watch from TAG Heuer, and one of the first smartwatches offered from any of the Swiss watchmakers.

The TAG Heuer Connected is considered a mini computer on your wrist that will work with Android Wear app for both Android and Apple. It is a luxury watch with a Titanium case and is 44mm in size.

Borsheims is fortunate to have nearly two dozen of the hard-to-come-by watches in stock (although they’re selling fast!). We have several different colored bands, too, so move fast if you want one in your favorite color. These are likely to be gone by the end of the weekend!

Here are the details:

  • 10am to Noon

  • Fashion Showcase
  • First 150 guests get a Regency Court swag bag filled with gifts.

Pack Your Rain Coats for Berkshire Weekend

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016

Was it last year that it absolutely poured early Saturday morning as people were standing in line outside the CenturyLink Center waiting to get into the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting?

I’m having definite memories of soaking wet shareholders.

And I’m afraid we may have a repeat this year.

KETV Forecast

That’s an 80% chance of rain on Saturday from our friends at KETV. And very cool temps if it’s raining at that time of day!

Come prepared. Bring a rain coat (with the wind – an umbrella won’t do you much good!). And be ready for cooler, windy, and wet weather all weekend long.

The weather won’t stop us from having a good time, though. Borsheims’ tent in the parking lot keeps the party going through rain, heat, and even – one year – snow!

See you in a few days!

Back by Popular Demand… Warren Buffett Signed Diamonds

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

We call it Warren Buffett’s tiniest and most valuable signature.

It’s so tiny that the signature can only be seen through a jewelry loupe.

WEB Signature Inscription

We’ve sold a very limited collection of diamonds inscribed with Warren Buffett’s signature the past few Berkshire weekends and they always sell out very quickly.

So we’ve brought another limited collection back.

We have 40 loose stones – ranging from under a carat to more than five carats. They are round and square shaped diamonds. You can choose to have them made into rings, pendants, earrings, or about anything else you can dream up.

The price on them for shareholders is incredible – starting at just under $1,900 for the smallest stones to $134,000 for the 5.34 carat round.

If you want one, act fast! They’re usually all snatched up by the Sunday of Berkshire weekend.
