Insider Tips for Friday’s Cocktail Party at Borsheims

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Are you ready to party with thousands of your closest shareholder friends while checking out some of the world’s most amazing jewelry, watches, and gifts?

Get ready! Because the party at Borsheims starts in just a few short hours!

Here are some helpful tips for getting the most out of your Friday night Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend kick-off party:
  • Plan ahead for parking. It will be tight and some of the businesses near Borsheims will tow if you park in their lots. My ideas: carpool, Uber or taxi, or ride the Borsheims shuttle from Westroads that runs from 5:30-10pm. There will be a lot of signage up to direct you at Westroads.
  • Bring your patience for the bar and buffet. We have two of each – a full set-up inside Regency and a full set-up in the tent outside. They’re both usually packed with long lines, especially when the party begins at 6pm.
  • You want to dance? Hit up the tent outside. We’ve got a great band playing! Bluehouse is a local favorite!
  • Shopping is a bit tricky on Friday night with all the people. If you’re serious about shopping, we recommend arriving earlier in the day to allow you the best shopping experience. You can still shop Friday night, but moving around the store is a bit more difficult.
  • Bathrooms? The porta-potties outside might be your best bet. Otherwise there are restrooms back by the fountains in Regency or through Borsheims gift gallery near customer service.
  • Remember it’s a cocktail party! Bring your cocktail party attitude and get ready for some fun! You’ll be mingling with other shareholders, getting an eyeful of beautiful jewelry, and enjoying the excitement that Berkshire weekend always brings.
We’re so glad to have you here! If you have any tips – or any questions – hit me up at the shareholder info booth at Borsheims or leave a comment here.

We honestly cannot recommend it enough.

How to win a $12,500 Strand of Pearls

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

***Updated with more specific contest rules***

One of our fabulous vendors who joins us every year for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend at Borsheims are the fine folks at TARA Pearls. This year, they have quite the incentive for people to shop with them. Three customers will each win a strand of pearls. All they have to do is guess how many pearls are in this vase, which will be located in Borsheims luxury salon right next to the TARA Pearls counter.

Borsheims_Contest

Customers will need to have purchased something from TARA Pearls worth more than $100 to enter the contest. Each customer who makes a qualifying purchase can submit one entry. The customer who guesses the exact number will win a strand of South Sea Tahitian Cultured Pearls valued at $12,500.

The winner will be announced on Sunday. They do not need to be present to win.

What a fun contest from TARA Pearls. Now if only my guessing skills were any good…

Best of luck to all who enter! That is quite a prize!

What’s New for #BRK2014? A New CEO at Borsheims!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

In our second installment of What’s New for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, it’s more huge news for Borsheims! (The first installment featured our new outlet store, the Borsheims Boutique.)

Today’s news? We have a new President & CEO, Karen Goracke!

Karen Goracke PhotoAlthough Karen is new in her role as President & CEO, she is not new to Borsheims. She started at Borsheims in 1988, as a salesperson in the gift department. Since then, she’s held about every role, including a stint as a stay-at-home mom.

After six years at home, Karen ran into then Borsheims President & CEO Susan Jacques at a soccer game. Susan asked her to consider coming back to work and she did, as Ladies Jewelry Buyer. She was eventually promoted to Director of Merchandise before being named President & CEO by Warren Buffett last fall.

Her prior experience as Director of Merchandise means that Karen was basically responsible for selecting each and every item that is for sale at Borsheims. She knows our inventory inside and out. Last Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, you would have seen Karen filling our cases with jewelry, watches and gifts (which she loves to do!). This year, she will be working with Mr. Buffett as he negotiates his “Crazy Warren” price with shareholders.

It’s a change that Karen is ready for:
“Borsheims has such a wonderful history and tradition. I see my role now as just steering this ship that is already headed in the right direction. We have such a wonderful team here, customers shouldn’t notice any changes to how we have always done things; a vast selection of jewelry, watches and gifts, incredible customer service, all at the lowest price we can offer.” – Karen Goracke, Borsheims President & CEO
So when you see Karen Goracke (pronounced gohr-ACK-ee) this Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, say ‘hi’! And if you see her trying to fill the cases with jewelry, gently remind her that she has a new role now. We are thrilled to have her steering our ship!

Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Brunch at Borsheims

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

Our caterers are hard at work today preparing your brunch for tomorrow morning.

It is always delicious!

The set up will be the same as it was Friday night for the cocktail party. There will be a buffett line inside Regency Court in the southwest hallway. There will be another buffett in the tent in our parking lot.

And again – because it is a bit chilly this year – our tent is heated and has doors. It was nice and toasty in there on Friday night. I’m sure Sunday morning it will be lovely in there once again.

The food tables and the bar will open at 9am on Sunday. I know several shareholders will come early to stake their place in line, but we usually have plenty of food all the way through the morning and early afternoon.

See you there!

Amazing Jewelry Deals at CenturyLink

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

We know that all Berkshire Hathaway shareholders love to hear what Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger have to say.

We also know that some of those shareholders love to listen to the Oracle for just a little bit and then they love to check out Berkyville and shop!

We are more than happy to help with that at our new-and-improved Borsehims Booth at the CenturyLink Center.

We love how it looks:

Borsheims Booth

What we love even more are the jewelry deals we have waiting for you this morning.

My personal favorites are these Swarovski crystal earrings that we are selling for just $60. They look much more expensive (and they usually are! Berkshire shareholders get such a deal!).

Bella-earringsWe have jewelry items for as low aw $20, all the way up to a $9,900 pair of diamond earrings. Come visit us in the exhibition hall this morning and we will be happy to help you find a piece of Borsheims to take home with you!

New Gorat’s Awaits Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Berkshire Hathaway shareholders attending this year’s annual shareholders weekend will notice a fresh new look at an old Omaha steakhouse.

Warren Buffett’s standby steakhouse, Gorat’s, is under new ownership and has been “de-decorated” in the words of new owner Gene Dunn.

Dunn says he restored the restaurant to how it was originally designed. That involved removing paneling and dropped ceilings, uncovering an old fireplace and windows and discovering some beautiful art deco ceilings.

It really is a fresh new look for the restaurant that used to be a house.

And the menu has been freshened up as well!

For starters, the restaurant now serves world-famous Omaha Steaks.

Take a peek at the new menu here.

New owner Gene Dunn is a long-time restaurant owner in Omaha. He also is the husband of Borsheims President & CEO Susan Jacques.

To make reservations at Gorat’s during Berkshire Hathaway weekend, call (402)551-3733 on Monday, April 1st. Mr. Buffett says he plans to eat there and at Piccolo’s on Sunday, May 5th.

In the meantime, take a sneak peek of the changes at Gorat’s in this slideshow:

Make your Restaurant Reservations for Berkshire Hathaway weekend

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

I’m sure by this point, out-of-towners have already booked their flights and hotels. Everyone should now focus their attention to making restaurant reservations for the weekend. With more than 35,000 Berkshire Hathaway shareholders here for the weekend, the restaurant scene can be a little packed.

We are a great resource for that! Check out our restaurants section on our website… under Around Omaha or by clicking here.

We categorized the restaurants by cuisine and location in town.

Of course, you should plan on eating at Borsheims during our Friday shareholder cocktail party and Sunday’s shareholder-only brunch. They are free to all shareholders.

Nebraska Furniture Mart offers a barbeque for shareholders on Saturday for a $5 fee.

One of Warren Buffett’s favorite steakhouses, Gorat’s, has a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder-only day on Sunday. The opened for reservations on April 1, so they may already be booked. You can try them at 402-551-3733.

One of Warren’s other favorite steakhouses, Piccolo’s, is taking reservations as well. Their number is 402-342-9038.

Happy eating!
