Mild Weather on Tap for Berkshire Shareholders

Monday, April 18th, 2016

I know it’s about two weeks away, but I’m a planner and when we have an event as big as Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, you can bet I’m watching the weather.

And I realize Nebraska weather can be impossible to predict a day ahead of time, much less 14 days ahead of time.

But my old coworker at KETV, Chief Meteorologist Bill Randby, does a great job of forecasting and his 14-day-outlook that includes Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend looks pretty good!

KETV 14 day forecastWe’ll take mild with highs in the upper 60s. (It’s better than super hot or the year we had snow!) We could do without the chance of rain, but less than 50% seems okay for now.

And we will keep an eye on the weather as we get closer to Berkshire weekend. I’m sure Bill Randby and all the other wonderful local meteorologists will do their best to help us prepare for whatever the weather gods will throw at us!

The Berkshire Hathaway Weekend Visitor’s Guide is Here!

Thursday, March 19th, 2015

We are always so excited to get our hands on the copy of the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders’ weekend Visitor’s Guide when it comes out each year. It is packed full of great information about the weekend, and always has a few fun surprises in it.

(This year, I was surprised to see that Fruit of the Loom is selling Berkshire Hathaway bras!)

Layout 1 The logistics of much of the weekend are the same as in past years, although there are a few changes. The biggest is the shareholder shopping hours at the CenturyLink Center on Friday, which we knew about a few weeks ago.

You can see from the Visitor’s Guide that Berkshire Hathaway and all its subsidiaries are going all-in on the Golden Jubilee theme! You’ll see a lot of black and gold and 50! You’ll especially see a lot of gold from our crew at Borsheims.

You can wait for the Visitor’s Guide to land in your mailbox when your passes and lanyards come in a few weeks or you can click here and peruse the guide now. We always have the Visitor’s Guide on the right-hand side of the blog, too, so you can easily access it.

Even though we’ve been doing this for years, we find the guide incredibly helpful now and throughout the weekend. We can’t encourage you enough to take a look at it and then bring it with you when you visit Omaha!

New Items in Borsheims Gift Department for Berkshire Hathaway weekend

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

Berkshire Hathaway shareholders who haven’t been into Borsheims in a while will be greeted with some new lines in our gift department. We thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the new items and give a shout out to our new vendors.

These bowls from Andrew Pearce are gorgeous. Andrew Pearce is the son of Simon Pearce, a renowned glassblower and pottery artist. The bowls use locally sourced wood from Vermont and a unique manufacturing process designed by Andrew himself. It produces very little waste, using as much of the wood as possible to minimize impacts on the environment and encourage sustainability.

Harold Lustig makes these di-chroic crystals in a vacuum chamber where an electron beam deposits many microscopic layers of metallic oxides on an optically pure crystal. Whether you like the science behind it or you just like really pretty things, these crystals are very cool. (By the way, they are tough to photograph with my limited skills. Much prettier in person!)

Harold LustigMaybe you want to take a little Nebraska home with you after the annual meeting? If so, check out this pillow from Cat Studio. They have pillows from several other states, cities and countries as well. But this Nebraska one has definitely been a great seller!

CatStudio PillowThe large Matthew Placzek sculpture will be back outside Borsheims this year. He has sold one each of the last few years, and this year, it’s another butterfly sculpture similar to last year’s. I don’t have an image of this year’s butterfly yet, but here is a photo of last year’s butterfly for reference.

Matthew Placzek Butterfly Sculpture

This butterfly sculpture by Matthew Placzek was on display outside Borsheims during the 2013 Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

I am sure there are other new lines that we missed, so take your time and walk around our gift gallery. We have items in all price ranges that are great for giving to yourself or others!

Business Insider: When you Take a Break from the Shareholders Meeting

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Business Insider had a great article last week about how to fill your non-Berkshire-Hathaway-shareholder-meeting time in Omaha.

We love the list! From obtaining a Warren Buffett bobblehead to visiting Borsheims, they have some great ideas for you (and a tip to one of the best restaurants in town!).

Read all about it here:
