Plan your Berkyville Buys Now!

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

We’re almost two weeks away from the most fun annual shareholders meeting on the planet!

It’s time to start thinking about what deals you can score when you shop in Berkyville – the huge convention center filled with Berkshire Hathaway companies selling their goods to you at a steep discount.

We don’t know yet what kind of great deals our sister companies like Pampered Chef and Brooks will be running this year.

We do know the Bookworm (not a Berkshire company, but a friend) has released its list of Warren Buffett-approved books they’ll have on site. Click here to see what the Oracle hopes you read.

And we’re ready at Borsheims to share the incredible deals on jewelry, watches, and gifts we’ll be offering. These deals are available both Friday and Saturday at the CenturyLink Center and they really are incredible. We have diamond studs, pearl strands, watches, and all sorts of Berkshire Hathaway souvenirs you’ll want to take home at you – at prices that no one can beat.

Watch the video to get a glimpse of all we have to offer this year. But act quick if you want to purchase during Berkshire weekend. Many of our items sell out quickly!

Borsheims By the Numbers

Saturday, April 30th, 2016

I’ve mentioned that the theme for this year’s Berkshire Hathaway weekend is “Berkshire Hathaway by the numbers.”

Each subsidiary was asked to submit some numbers about their company to Berkshire Hathaway headquarters. It was fun thinking about Borsheims and Berkshire Hathaway weekend in this way.

Here are a few of the fun facts from Borsheims:

Berkshire Weekend Fun Facts
  • During the 2015 Berkshire Hathaway weekend we were visited by over 27,000 guests
  • To thank them for their patronage, we fed them.  We went through:
    • 25,000 meatballs
    • 2,000 pounds of chicken
    • 9,000 squares of quiche
    • 600 pounds of polish sausage
    • 15,000 cocktail buns
    • 2,000 pounds of roast beef to serve on those cocktail buns
    • 1,000 pounds of fresh fruit
    • 800 pounds of veggies
    • 300 pounds of ranch dip
    • 1,000 pounds of cheese
  • It is all worth it however, because Borsheims processes a credit card every 11 seconds during the weekend. And in 2015, we sold 132 loose diamonds instore and online.
  • We processed over 2,500 transactions at the Borsheims pop up booth at the CenturyLink Center in 2015.
  • We used over 11,000 yard of ribbon that weekend alone (that’s more than six miles).
  • Borsheims is very busy the rest of the year as well. In 2014 we processed 98,000 sales tickets and assisted 42,000 clients with purchases.  That works out to an average 2.33 sales per client.
  • Throughout the year, we sold 160,000 units of merchandise and engraved something on 1000 of them.  That means that 3.5 items per day are personalized with a meaningful heartfelt message.
  • We accepted 14,000 in-house jewelry repairs in 2014, special ordered 6000 items to meet the specific desires of our clients, and changed the battery in 7,000 watches.
  • That is a lot of business. We are very thankful for it!

Peek Into Borsheims Gift Gallery

Saturday, April 30th, 2016

Not only does Borsheims bring in incredible jewelry and watches for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, but we also make sure our gift gallery is stocked with great items.

We have several new vendors you might notice when visiting the gift gallery this weekend. Here are a few highlights:

The wood items are from GG Collection – and are called “contemporary European decor” for the kitchen.

I love this zebra laundry basket – especially for a child’s room. And if you’re from out-of-town, we know how to ship!

We’ve carried Kosta Boda for years, but I’ve never seen lipstick decor quite this large.

Simon Pearce is another favorite vendor. These vases and bowls are incredible pieces of art.

IMG_0731 These quartz votive holders are from Kathryn McCoy. We have them in a wide variety of sizes.

Simon Pearce has a really updated look this year, bringing in the crystalline look.

Don’t forget those amazing Swarovski crystal encrusted animals we talked about the other day, either!

Come in to get a full view of what all we have in store. It’s a packed gift gallery for Berkshire weekend!

What’s the Most Expensive Piece at Borsheims This Year?

Friday, April 29th, 2016

The question I get asked the most each year (other than where to find the restrooms) is what is the most expensive item at Borsheims.

Here is this year’s winner…

Yellow Diamond

It’s a 56.10 carat fancy intense yellow diamond.

Want to take it home? We’d love to have a shareholder buy it! Retail price is more than $6 million, but a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder can take it home for $4.6 million.

Revisiting some Frequently Asked Questions

Monday, April 25th, 2016

We did this post last year – but it’s worth repeating. We get the same questions year after year, so I’ll give you the same answers year after year.

Here are a few of the FAQs we always get:

Q: Where is The Bookworm?

A: The Bookworm (a great local bookstore that carries a huge supply of Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett related books) has a booth at the CenturyLink Center on both Friday and Saturday of Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend. But they also have a main storefront, which moved two years ago. You can now find The Bookworm about a mile south of where they used to be located. They’re now in Loveland Centre near 90th and Center Streets. If you want to get a sneak peek at all the Berkshire Hathaway books they’re carrying this year, they put together this handy list!

Q: Are there any Dairy Queen locations nearby?

A: There are! And trust me, I know how to get there. And what to order. (The banana split blizzard is my go-to.) The DQ closest to Borsheims is just south of 114th and Dodge Streets. There’s another on 72nd & Blondo, about a mile and a half north of Nebraska Furniture Mart. If you’re elsewhere in Omaha, find a nearby Dairy Queen by checking this handy locator on their website.

Q: Can I walk from Borsheims to Nebraska Furniture Mart?

A: You could, I suppose. But it’s not very walk-friendly. My friend Google Maps shows it’s about 3 miles and would take about an hour. If you take the suggested route, you’ll walk through some pretty posh neighborhoods, so that’s cool. Or you could just call a taxi or Uber. Or ask another friendly shareholder for a lift.

Q: Where can I see Warren Buffett?Buffett, Gates play ping pong

A: Like up close and personal? Your best bet is one of three places. 1) He wanders the floor of the CenturyLink Center checking out the exhibitors on Saturday before the annual meeting begins. He is usually surrounded by a horde of media, but you can try to elbow your way in. 2) He comes to Borsheims on Sunday afternoon around 1pm. He usually plays a little table tennis with Ariel Hsing and bridge. 3) He makes a stop at Gorat’s Restaurant on Sunday night. I’m sure reservations are already be gone, but you can sure try to snag a spot.

Q: Can you get this hand-crafted-ukulele, picture-of-my-kid-who-looks-like-Charlie-Munger, life-size-replica-of-Warren-Buffett-made-out-of-q-tips to Warren Buffett to have him sign?

A: Nope. Wish I could, but I can’t. He’s pretty busy during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend and so are we. Chances are pretty good that your prized possession would get lost in the shuffle if I took it!

If you have any other questions, leave them in the comments or come see me at the Info Desk in front of Borsheims.

Check out our Borsheims and #BRK2016 Coloring Book!

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

You guys! I have a new favorite souvenir item to commemorate this year’s Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting. Check it out!

Not only is it the coolest, but it’s also $5! This coloring book is for adults or kids – and is full of Borsheims and Berkshire related images.

Here are two of my favorites:

Coloring Book Jewelry

Coloring Book Warren and Charlie

Maybe it’s because I spend a good chunk of each day coloring (4 kids will do that to a person!), but I think this coloring book will be a best seller.

We have a few other items that are bound to be bestsellers, too. You can peruse all the memorabilia in this slideshow below, and click here to purchase some of the items now. The rest will be for sale at the Borsheims booth in the CenturyLink Center on Friday and Saturday of Berkshire weekend.

Created with flickr slideshow.

Sunday Funday at Borsheims!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2015

Good morning shareholders!

Are you exhausted yet from your weekend of Berkshire Hathaway fun?

I hope not, because we have one more day of craziness in store. Although it is, admittedly, less crazy than both Friday and Saturday.

In fact, Sunday might be our favorite day at Borsheims. It’s somewhat relaxed, very entertaining, and the big guy himself visits us!

Warren Buffett is scheduled to stop by around 1pm today to play table tennis against Ariel Hsing.

Ariel Hsing plays Warren Buffett and Bill Gates

Olympian Ariel Hsing plays Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in Table Tennis at the 2012 Shareholders Meeting

Usually Mr. Buffett brings his dear friend, Bill Gates. And a prop or two, because Ariel Hsing is an Olympic table tennis player.

Mr. Buffett then sometimes sits down for a few hands of bridge. With Mr. Gates as well.

Gates and Buffett play bridge

In the past years, Mr. Buffett has played salesman at Borsheims but he is now officially retired from that gig. He’ll be impossible to replace, but he certainly went out on top last year when he helped a young man propose to his girlfriend.

In addition to the Buffett-viewing, we have food and drinks (from 9am to 4pm) to nourish you, a magician to dazzle you and a performer in the tent to entertain you. Oh – and thousands of pieces of jewelry, watches and gifts to sell you!

See you soon!

Borsheims Exclusives – Jewelry You Can Find ONLY at Borsheims

Saturday, May 2nd, 2015

Prepare to be impressed.

Borsheims has several pieces of jewelry this weekend that you can ONLY see here. As in – exclusive, one-of-a-kind, first peek, jaw-droppingly beautiful jewelry and watches.

Check them out!

This is a conch pearl necklace from TARA Pearls. It took more than 7 years to assemble all the pearls since only 1 in 10,000 pearls from a conch is jewelry worthy. And then to find pearls that match enough in color and size!?! That makes this a true work of art. A necklace similar to this one sold at Sotheby’s for $1.1 million several years ago. To find out how much it will cost you to take this one home, see a salesperson in the store!

These pear shaped yellow diamond earrings are not small. With 38 total carats, these earrings are listed at over $2.5 million.

Pink diamonds are rare. Pink diamonds of this clarity, color and size are incredibly rare. This fancy pink diamond ring is over 5 carats and is listed at $3.8 million.

I love this story. Designer Roberto Coin has been a partner of Borsheims for several years. To celebrate our long relationship, he created a special collection you can find ONLY at Borsheims. It’s beautiful! It’s called the Silk collection and is made of lightly spun gold threads. It’s an updated twist on an old classic, which is what Roberto Coin does best.

The best part about the Silk collection might be its price point. The pieces are generally under $5,000.

Designer Marco Bicego also brought several one-of-a-kind pieces in this weekend. This gorgeous blue necklace is Lapis and sells for $9,510 (shareholders always get a discount!).

The earrings are black opal and you can remove the gold dangle at the bottom, making it two pairs of earrings in one.

This necklace was handmade by Marco Bicego with a technique he learned from his father. He took 18k gold and hand-twisted it around a wire. The piece is only in Omaha and is beautiful.

Speaking of only in Omaha… check out these Cartier watches. Get a good look, because this is the world premiere of the Cle de Cartier watches. They feature a new in-house movement. The collection officially launches in September, but Berkshire Hathaway shareholders can take them home this weekend!

On the diamond front, we are happy to host the Forevermark Exceptional Diamond collection. Here’s what Forevermark says about the collection:

Exceptional Diamonds are kept separate from other diamonds from the moment of discovery. Their carat weight, color and purity classify them as extraordinarily valuable and rare. The De Beers Group of Companies has to mine over half a million rough diamonds to discover just one that meets the exacting standards required of an Exceptional. They are truly in a class of their own.IMG_7978

One of the coolest features of the Forevermark Exceptional Diamond collection is that you can name your diamond. Then, a coffee table book will be produced for you about your diamond featuring it’s name. I would name this 5 carat cushion cut ring above the “Costs As Much As My House But More Beautiful” diamond!
