Hashtag those posts, people!

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

You already know you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, and Instagram. But to make it easier for us all to communicate with each other, please use the official hashtag #BRK2017.

Not only does using the hashtag allow everyone interested in the weekend to communicate with each other more easily, but it also will take your Twitter and Instagram posts and broadcast them to the two huge screens up at Borsheims. See your tweets or pics up on the big screen by using the hashtag Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

I look forward to the online chatting!

Rare, Collectible, Heirloom Jewelry at Borsheims

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017

In addition to the incredible recently-mined diamonds at Borsheims for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend, we are also bringing in a selection of rare, collectible jewels from Siegelson, New York.

We’re talking jewelry and artwork about a century old and worn and owned by the elites and near-royalty of the time.

If you love heirloom pieces, these are must see jewels this week. If you really love them, they’re must-buy pieces!

I want to highlight a few pieces in the collection:

This is the Mughal Heart – a heart-shaped Golconda Diamond necklace.

The center heart-shaped diamond weighs in at more than 30 carats. It is a D-color, internally flawless, type IIa diamond and an extremely rare gem.

It was owned for years by the Drexel family, a prominent British-American family. They were bankers and financiers and founded Drexel University. The heart was passed through a few generations of the Drexel family, including to socialite Noreen Drexel who wore it on my occasions, including at the Tiffany Ball where she was photographed chatting with John and Jackie Kennedy.

I love this diamond bow brooch from 1904. Made by Cartier, it is an openwork millenarian ribbon bow brooch with floral and foliate motifs, set with old European-cut and rose-cut diamonds. The diamonds total more than 43 carats and the brooch measures about 4.5 inches across.

A very different piece is this Art Deco Retrograde Colored Gemstone and Diamond Gazelle Clock. Siegelson tells us this clock is an incredible example of the retrograde movement perfected in the 19th century. This clock has the hour hand rotating for twelve hours before a spring brings it back to the initial twelve, while the longer minute hand operates similarly over a 60 minute interval.

The sculptures are three gazelles made of aquamarine, resting on an agate and lapis lazuli platform above a fountain with rock crystal waterfalls cascading into an agate pool. It’s an incredibly unique piece and a rarity to find one this extraordinary for sale.

These unbelievable pieces – and more – are arriving in store this week and will all be on hand by Friday to greet the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders. And they’re all for sale! Come and in to see these heirloom pieces for yourself. Maybe you’ll fall in love and take one home with you!

Buy a diamond at Borsheims, Build a Well in Botswana

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017

We are so thrilled to announce this endeavor.

Borsheims has partnered with trusted diamond company Leo Schachter to produce the Kalahari Dream Diamonds. Our diamond buyer, Heather Ingraham, has been instrumental in developing this idea. She has traveled to the Kalahari Desert area to witness firsthand the impact ethically sourced diamond mining can have on the community.

Borsheims Kalahari Dream Diamonds give directly back to those communities. In fact, each Kalahari Dream Diamond sold during Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend will designate money toward building a well in a village in Botswana that does not have access to water.

These diamonds are beautiful. We have them in loose stones, pendants, earrings, and rings. We also had a few large jewelry pieces created just for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

But beyond the beauty of the diamonds, we love the beautiful story they tell. Heather tells it best in this quick video.

We hope you can come in and see the Kalahari Dream Diamond collection for yourself. Or check it out online by clicking here. It is available only at Borsheims and we are so proud of Heather and all our customers supporting this important mission.

Weather Forecast for Berkshire Hathaway Weekend

Monday, May 1st, 2017

I am so glad this past weekend was not Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

It was rainy. And cold. And windy. And miserable. And a few miles outside of Omaha, it was snowy.

This is not how Nebraska usually looks on May 1st. Photo Courtesy Antelope County News.

But we promise things are looking up! By the time most shareholders arrive into Omaha on Friday, we’ll be back to our usual spring loveliness around here!

The forecast from our good friends at KETV (the local ABC affiliate) shows some perfect weather just in time for shareholders to arrive.

70s and sunny sound amazing – especially after all the rain and nasty weather. It even looks dry – so hopefully we won’t have a bunch of soaked shareholders this year.

Pack accordingly, Berkies! We’ll see you in a few days!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Berkshire!

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

This is a picture from a few years back, but I feel like we’re getting there at Borsheims! No shareholders sporting passes around their necks yet, but I was just on the sales floor and things are definitely starting to look Berkshire-ready.

Let me give you a little tour of how things are shaping up at Borsheims.

The gift gallery is quickly filling with new and exciting pieces. These sculptures and home decor by Michael Aram are stunning. The gold is absolutely beautiful and check out one of our favorite pieces:

It’s Icarus – known for flying too close to the sun. He’s displayed in front of a gorgeous painting by Michael Aram. It’s worth checking out in person.

Our Judith Leiber purses are elegantly squeezed into the display case so we can fit the most in for our shareholders. I love this frog prince.

The gift gallery isn’t getting all the attention. We have a new area in the store designated for Monica Rich Kosann jewelry. It’s become a fast favorite among customers.

My favorite Monica Rich Kosann pieces are the lockets. They’re lovely – not too flashy but absolutely perfect.

The sales floor is ready and we’re packing in more jewelry by the day, with some of the biggest and most amazing pieces arriving next week just in time for shareholders. You can beat the rush and shop now, and don’t forget the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders discount period starts on Monday at Borsheims!

What Jewelry, Watch, Gift Vendors will be at Borsheims?

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

Borsheims is known as one of the largest independent jewelry stores in the nation. That’s based on square footage of the store itself as well as the wide inventory of jewelry, watches, and fine gifts carried in the store.

Each spring, we carefully go through our list of jewelry, watch, and gift vendors to invite a select few to join us for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

Those vendors then bring in their absolute best goods for the weekend. We’re talking art-museum quality jewelry pieces, the first glimpse at a new and highly-anticipated watch, and one-of-a-kind artwork for your home or office.

This year, we have another spectacular rundown of vendors joining us for the weekend. You can access the entire list of our vendors here. We have dozens of additional brands available in the store, but we cannot possibly fit all of our vendors and all their extra goodies in the store at once so we do have to limit which lines can actually send vendors and additional merchandise for the weekend.

Do you like this year’s list? Are there any vendors you want us to include in next year’s list? Or any lines that we don’t carry that you’d like to see in store at Borsheims? Let me know in the comments!

Plan your Berkyville Buys Now!

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

We’re almost two weeks away from the most fun annual shareholders meeting on the planet!

It’s time to start thinking about what deals you can score when you shop in Berkyville – the huge convention center filled with Berkshire Hathaway companies selling their goods to you at a steep discount.

We don’t know yet what kind of great deals our sister companies like Pampered Chef and Brooks will be running this year.

We do know the Bookworm (not a Berkshire company, but a friend) has released its list of Warren Buffett-approved books they’ll have on site. Click here to see what the Oracle hopes you read.

And we’re ready at Borsheims to share the incredible deals on jewelry, watches, and gifts we’ll be offering. These deals are available both Friday and Saturday at the CenturyLink Center and they really are incredible. We have diamond studs, pearl strands, watches, and all sorts of Berkshire Hathaway souvenirs you’ll want to take home at you – at prices that no one can beat.

Watch the video to get a glimpse of all we have to offer this year. But act quick if you want to purchase during Berkshire weekend. Many of our items sell out quickly!

Buffett-related Learning Opportunities in Omaha during BRK Weekend

Monday, April 17th, 2017

While most shareholders come to Omaha to take in the meeting, do some shopping (and saving!), and see the sights, there are several shareholders who want to soak up as much Buffett and Berkshire knowledge as they can. For them, Omaha has plenty to offer! Over the past decade or so, many seminars have popped up surrounding Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend to provide eager shareholders with even more Buffett and Berkshire related information.

Here are a few that have caught our eye – and a bit of info about them from their respective websites:

Value Investing Panel at Creighton University
Friday, May 5, 2017 – 3:00pm

Creighton University’s Heider College of Business and Portfolio Practicum class will be hosting a value investing panel discussion at 3:00 pm on Friday, May 5th, in the Mike and Josie Harper Center. A reception will follow the panel discussion at 5:00 pm.

Currently in it’s ninth year, the Value Investing Panel (VIP) is organized and run by the Portfolio Practicum students each year, and is designed for students and investors interested in value investment. It is also open to members of the community who would like to hear panelists’ thoughts on the current state of the stock market and alternative investment strategies. Picking the brain of just one of the panelists would be illuminating. Hearing their combined thoughts in a panel discussion atmosphere is a rare opportunity.

The Portfolio Practicum class is an experiential learning opportunity unique to the Heider College of Business. Students learn portfolio management techniques and augment classroom lessons on valuation skills while gaining real-world investment practice; this year’s class invested more than $6 million of the University’s endowment.

Genius of Buffett Seminar
The Genius of Warren Buffett is the first of twelve in-depth sessions of the extraordinary life of a financial, management, business and charitable legend. The course is offered at the University of Nebraska at Omaha by the author, Buffett Scholar and worldwide lecturer Robert P. Miles.

The course has been designed for students of all ages including: Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, senior managers, entrepreneurs, private investors, investment professionals, association executives, foundation leaders, corporate directors, family offices and generally for those with a curiosity and fascination of Warren Buffett, to join with UNO graduate students to explore an in-depth evaluation of the life, character, investment, management, business, and charitable career of one of the greatest business leaders of all time.

Course runs 8am – 5pm Monday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 3. Participants may attend optional evening dinner (not included) at various Omaha locations.
Value Investor Conference

A small gathering for the independent thinking investor, where world-class investors meet Warren Buffett CEOs. Geared particularly for the very seasoned and concentrated investor who prefers a more quantitative (numbers and measurable) and qualitative (management and non measurable) approach to selecting investments.

According to Berkshire Hathaway Vice Chairman Charlie Munger, “All intelligent investing is value investing.” Therefore, this value and intelligent investor retreat is enjoyed by independent minded investment professionals from around the world representing private investors, certified financial analysts, high net worth individuals, hedge fund managers, family offices, registered investment advisors, stock brokers, financial consultants, security analysts, pension fund consultants, public pension funds, independent trust companies, endowments, foundations, and mutual fund managers.

Seminar is Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5 at University of Nebraska Omaha.

We hear that these seminars can sell out quickly, so make sure to register soon if your’e interested. If we weren’t so busy during Berkshire weekend ourselves, we would attend!
