Throwback Thursday: Photos from the BRK Cocktail Reception at Borsheims

Thursday, July 31st, 2014

We can’t believe it’s already been about three months since Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend! The great news is that means it’s only 9 months until the 2015 shareholders weekend!

In the meantime, we thought you might enjoy this look back at the Friday night shareholder-only cocktail reception at Borsheims. Our friends at Metro Magazine, Omaha’s society magazine, took these photos and put them on their website to share.

Enjoy! And remember that you can always see our photos from the entire weekend on our Flickr sit.

See a Time Lapse of the Berkshire Hathaway Crowds at Borsheims

Friday, May 2nd, 2014

It was a crazy, crazy day at Borsheims.

From the start of the day with hundreds of people ready and waiting to buy jewelry, to the end of the day cocktail party – this day was fun but definitely nuts! We are exhausted but gearing back up for another big day tomorrow and an even bigger Sunday.

We thought it would be fun to take a look at the Friday crowds just outside of Borsheims through a time lapse video.

Take a look and see if you can spot yourself! Thanks for coming!

Most Expensive Items at Borsheims? Huge Diamonds!

Friday, May 2nd, 2014

Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, like their leader Warren Buffett, sometimes get the reputation of being frugal.

We have cases and cases full of jewelry, watches and gifts that will fit in a frugal shopper’s budget.

But we figure there are some shareholders who have enough BRKA shares that they can afford some of the most expensive items we have at Borsheims for Berkshire Hathaway weekend. (And the rest of us enjoy looking at them, too!)

In no particular order, I present some of our luxury jewelry currently in store:

Emerald Cut Diamond Ring available for $4 million at Borsheims.

Emerald Cut Diamond Ring available for $4 million at Borsheims.

This might be the most expensive piece in store this weekend. At $4 million, it’s a pretty good sized diamond ring. 15 carats to be exact.

Art Deco Earrings

Kerry Washington

See why these earrings are so cool? Fred Leighton brought these estate art deco diamond earrings to Borsheims. Kerry Washington only borrowed them, but you can take them home for a cool $55,000.

Fred Leighton Victorian Era Necklace $120,000If you want the most bang for your buck, get a necklace that can also double as a tiara. Another piece from Fred Leighton, but this time it is from the Victorian Era. Seriously, you can wear it as a tiara or a necklace. That makes the $120,000 price tag a little more appealing, doesn’t it?

Yellow Diamond Ring

Let’s return to the big diamonds. How about a 40 carat yellow? $2.8 million sound about right?

RahaminovIf yellow isn’t your color, try this one out. It’s a 20+ carat diamond for $2.9 million.

Tara Triple Strand

If pearls are more your thing, this triple strand from Tara will make you swoon. The natural colored pearls are set in platinum for $369,000.

Here is the most amazing part, shareholders. The prices I listed are retail prices. You will get the Borsheims price AND THEN the Berkshire Hathaway shareholder discount on top of that. Imagine how much money you’ll be $aving by shopping at Borsheims!

New Artwork Greets Borsheims Guests for Berkshire Weekend

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

At Borsheims, we have a lot of artwork in our cases and on our shelves. You can take it all home with you for the right price.

But there is one piece of artwork that is not for sale, and it has such a cool back story. It’s the large photo that graces our main entry way, and we change it out every year for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

IMG_5570It’s always a microphotograph from the famous John Koivula. He’s an incredible microphotographer, taking photos of the inside of gemstones. This one is the delicately etched growth hillocks on a phantom plane in aquamarine at 40 times magnification. It just blows my mind how amazing these gemstones look at a microscopic level. It’s so beautiful.

Here’s a better look at the photo.

AquamarineWe are so grateful to John Koivula for allowing us to use his photographs. What better art for a jewelry store than a phenomenal look inside a gemstone!

“Crazy Warren” and His Pricing a Hit with Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders

Sunday, May 5th, 2013

Omaha, NE – Dozens of Berkshire Hathaway shareholders had the opportunity to purchase jewelry from Warren Buffett today (Sunday, May 5) at Borsheims Jewelry in Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Buffett offered shareholders his “Crazy Warren” pricing – a big discount off the shareholders already large discount they receive during the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders weekend.

Shareholders interested in buying jewelry from Mr. Buffett have been working with sales associates and making appointments for weeks. The times to buy from Mr. Buffett booked up quickly, with a record number of shareholders requesting appointments.

Mr. Buffett’s sales ranged from diamonds to watches to a ruby ring.Buffett selling

Here are a few stories about what he sold:

– A young man wrote Mr. Buffett a letter saying he wanted to buy his engagement ring from him. Mr. Buffett wrote the man back, saying he would. The man bought the diamond ring from Mr. Buffett Sunday afternoon and Mr. Buffett told him, “it comes with a guarantee that she’ll say yes.”

– One shareholder found a ring with brown diamonds in the shape of a snake. She was born in the year of the snake and had always wanted a snake ring. Mr. Buffett sold her the ring, then posed for photos with the shareholder and her snake ring.

– Another shareholder bought three of Borsheims new signature diamonds*. She plans to have them made into earrings and a ring. She made the purchase with her children and grandchildren standing around her.

The Borsheims Signature Diamonds are new this year at Borsheims. Borsheims highly knowledgeable staff worked with a diamantaire in finding the best possible cut for the new line of stones. The result is a star cut into the culet of the diamond, giving the diamond additional fire and brilliance. (The culet is the tiny facet or point on the base of gemstone that reflects light passing through the stone.) These diamonds come from Canada’s Northwest Territory, where miners and environmentalists have worked closely together for the past decade to determine the best and most environmentally-friendly way to extract the diamonds forming there for more than three billion years. Each Signature Diamond is laser-inscribed with a one-of-a-kind identification number, the Borsheims name and a maple leaf guaranteeing its Canadian origin. The ID numbers are registered with the GIA, allowing customers to always be able to identify their diamond and trace its roots back to the mines in Canada.
